Mac Novell Network Printer Setup

Select the appropriate operating system version. If you are not sure what version of OS X you are using, select "About this Mac" from the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen.

Setting up Novell printers on 10.4

  1. Open the Printer Setup Utility in /Applications/Utilities on your Hard Drive
    Open Printer
  2. Click Add on the Printer List window (you may already have one or more printers installed and set up, including Adobe PDF and/or FlashPaper)
    Printer List Window
  3. In the Printer Browser window, make sure IP Printer is selected using the Line Priner Daemon - LPD protocol. The address for all RCOE Novell network printers is rcoe.ced.appstate.edu. Queue names will differ depending on your office or department - see the list below for printer queue names in your area (the printer queue name includes a room or department identifier), and use accordingly. In this example, we are setting up the Xerox Phaser 4500 in the Dean's Office.

    Add printer

Under the Name and Location fields, you may enter any value, although we recommend you use an intuitive name for the printer, especially if you are setting up multiple printers on your computer (the name will appear as a drop-down when you print from applications). OS X ships with many printer drivers needed for RCOE printers. If you are unable to find a suitable driver for the printer, you may use the Generic PostScript Printer driver, although some features such as duplexing and stapling may not be available using this generic driver. Click Add once you've found a suitable driver.
  4. You may be prompted to set additional printer options if your printer supports duplexing or other features. If you are unsure about your printer features, check with RCOE Technical Support for more information. These settings can be changed later.

  5. If you are adding several printers, you may wish to make one printer the default (such as high-volume black & white printer). Select the printer you want to be the default, and then click Make Default in the Printers List window - your default printer will appear bold in the list.
